The company bad mouthed me?

Sounds like you were a difficult person to work for, what with approving plans then changing your mind after the work had already been done. I think you're being a little hypersensitive. The contractor apologised, and offered to come back and finish the job without the staff member that caused you offence. The job has still been half done, this man has put a lot of work into it So far, why should he be penalized for the actions of someone else? So you can either, let it go and allow the contractor to finish the job, or, find someone else to finish a half-done job, losing the money you have paid so far + extra for the materials.... which makes more sense?
